Walmart plans 1,000 jobs and a $1.3 billion fulfillment center in Carnesville
The state says construction on the 1.5 million square foot automated site is expected to begin in late 2026.
Gov. Brian Kemp's office announced on Aug. 27 that Walmart will build a 1.5 million square foot automated next generation fulfillment center at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center in Carnesville. The release puts the project at 1,000 new jobs and $1.3 billion in investment in Franklin County.
The state describes the site as a facility meant to expand same day and next day shipping. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026. The release does not give an opening date or a hiring timeline.
Franklin Springs Mayor Lee Moore, who chairs the Franklin County Industrial Authority, called the investment a significant milestone for the community in the release. Tonya Powers, president of the Franklin County Industrial Building Authority, and state economic development commissioner Pat Wilson are also quoted. The Lavonia Local has not independently confirmed any figure beyond what the state published.

The Army Corps of Engineers said on Aug. 26 that it will maintain lake level restrictions at Hartwell Lake while it works on seepage issues at the Clemson Lower Diversion Dam Saddle Dike. The Corps page on those restrictions says the basin is in Level 2 drought conditions, with the lake roughly eight feet below its normal guide curve, and that some shallow ramps may close. In Lavonia, the city's live feed says the boil water advisory for the Gumlog area was rescinded as of Aug. 25. The county has also posted notices on a convenience center price change, applications for the Board of Equalization, and AED reporting under the Mason Sells Act. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office page lists records hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and points residents to CodeRed for emergency alerts.

The county agenda center showed no September agendas beyond a Sept. 2 Board of Assessors meeting.
