Franklin County
Courthouse back open today after roof work
The building reopened at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, ending an eight day closure.
The Franklin County Courthouse in Carnesville is open to the public again this morning. The county's closure order ran from 12:01 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31 until 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, and the county said normal operations resume today.
The county closed the whole building to the public while crews worked on the roof, citing the hazard of falling debris and roofing material. The Clerk of Superior Court stayed reachable by phone through the closure at 706-384-2514.
The county's notice does not say whether any roof work continues now that the building is open, and it does not list separate reopening times for individual offices.

The Army Corps of Engineers is holding Hartwell Lake to a maximum of 662 feet above sea level while it studies seepage at the Clemson Lower Diversion Dam Saddle Dike, and says the limit is an interim safety measure expected to stay in place for years; swim beaches sit dry below 657 feet and some ramps may close (Corps of Engineers). The City of Lavonia lifted the boil water advisory for the Gumlog area, covering Lakeshore Drive, Laurel Circle, Catfish Lane, Siesta Street and Lane, Trout Drive, Cedar Street and Park Street, on Aug. 25, and the splash pad reopened last month after technical problems (City of Lavonia). The county is taking applications for membership on the Board of Equalization (Franklin County). The Lavonia Carnegie Library is closed Thursdays and weekends and open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday (library).
Where we could not look this morning. The Franklin County Chamber's online calendar showed no September or October dates. The City of Lavonia site has no 2026 agenda and minutes page posted, so no city council date could be confirmed. The Lavonia Carnegie Library page carried hours but no September program calendar. Emmanuel University's athletics archive page returned only navigation, so no team news could be read. The Department of War releases page did not render any items. Community listings from 92.1 WLHR are marked for confirmation because that page does not always carry an organizer's own notice.
