HARTWELL LAKE
Ten Hartwell Lake areas open to hunters Saturday
Three Georgia parks and seven South Carolina tracts come open as early as Sept. 12, and hunting stays barred everywhere else on Corps land
The Army Corps of Engineers says ten recreation areas at Hartwell Lake will open to hunters beginning as early as Sept. 12. On the Georgia side those are the Hartwell Dam Quarry Area, 410 acres in Hart County, New Prospect Park, 34 acres in Hart County, and Jenkins Ferry Park, 31 acres in Stephens County. Seven tracts inside Fant's Grove Wildlife Management Area open on the South Carolina side, including Choestoea Park at 369 acres and Glenn Ferry Park at 211 acres.
Hunting remains prohibited in every other developed recreation area at the lake. A free permit from the Visitors Center is required for the Hartwell Dam Quarry Area, and hunters need the license their state requires. The Corps lists natural resource specialist Jason Corder at 706-856-0332 for questions on the Georgia side and South Carolina DNR at 864-654-1671 for the tracts across the line.

Where we could not look this morning. The Franklin County Chamber events calendar showed no dated entries for the coming weeks.
