Commissioners hold a work session Tuesday evening in Carnesville
The county calendar lists a 6 p.m. work session, the board's next scheduled public meeting.
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to meet in a work session Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. in Carnesville, according to the county's posted calendar. The calendar lists the meeting under the board's own meeting category and gives Carnesville as the location without naming a room.
Work sessions are where commissioners walk through items before voting on them at a regular meeting. The county has not posted an agenda for Tuesday in its agenda center. The most recent commission agenda and minutes posted there are from the regular meeting of Sept. 14.
Residents who want to know what is on the table Tuesday will need to check the agenda center again closer to the meeting or contact the county. No public hearing is listed alongside the work session.

Supreme Court lets modified federal voter-check program stay in place during appeal
The Court granted the government's application to stay a June 22 order from the federal district court in Washington that had vacated the modified SAVE program, the system used to check records against federal immigration and citizenship data. The stay holds while the case is appealed to the D.C. Circuit and through any Supreme Court review, and ends on its own if review is denied. Justice Jackson dissented, joined by Justices Sotomayor and Kagan, writing that the government had not shown it was likely to win on the merits and that the majority's reading of the statute needed fuller briefing.

Still posted and still worth knowing: Franklin County changed its convenience center fee structure in August and has a draft animal control ordinance and its 2026 tax digest and five-year levy history available on the county news flash page, which has not been updated since Aug. 28. The City of Lavonia's live feed has been quiet since Aug. 26, when the boil water advisory for the Gumlog area streets was lifted. Georgia remains under a Level 1 drought response declared in April, with the city's conservation guidance posted on the same feed.
Where we could not look this morning. The Hartwell Lake level restrictions page returned a 403 error and could not be read, so there is no lake level or ramp restriction in this edition. The Savannah District news release page loaded but showed nothing newer than the spring, so it may not be current. The Department of War release page did not render any items. The Franklin County Chamber calendar loaded but listed no dated events. The Lavonia-Carnegie Library page did not show any upcoming programs. No 2026 agenda page was found on the City of Lavonia site, so there is no city council or planning date in this edition. Emmanuel's men's soccer schedule page still shows no result for Saturday's home match with Francis Marion.
