Franklin County
Commissioners hold a work session tonight in Carnesville
It is the only county meeting the calendar lists for the weeks ahead, and no agenda has been posted for it.
The Franklin County calendar lists a Board of Commissioners work session for today at 6 p.m. in Carnesville. The listing gives the city but no building name or street address, so anyone planning to attend should confirm the location with the county first.
Work sessions are where commissioners talk through items before voting on them at a regular meeting. The county agenda center has not posted an agenda for tonight, and the most recent Board of Commissioners item there is the Sept. 14 regular meeting agenda, which has a video recording attached.
No October agendas have been posted to the agenda center yet for any county board.

Kemp suspends the state motor fuel tax for 30 days
An executive order declares a state of emergency over what the release calls global market volatility and suspends collection of Georgia's motor fuel excise tax from Sept. 29 through Oct. 29. The release puts the suspended rates at 33.3 cents a gallon on gasoline and 37.3 cents on diesel, and says state weight limits on commercial vehicles are suspended as well. It cites statewide averages of $4.19 for regular and $6.24 for diesel at the time of signing. The suspension covers the state tax only, so local taxes and the pump price itself are not fixed by the order.

Franklin County Schools lists an electronic device policy out for public review, along with a new Pre-K class and a cell phone pilot program at the high school. The county news flash page still carries a notice seeking applicants for the Board of Equalization, a convenience center price change document and a draft animal control ordinance. The agenda center shows no October agendas posted yet for any county board, and the city of Lavonia live feed has nothing newer than the Aug. 26 notice lifting the Gumlog area boil water advisory.
Where we could not look this morning. The Hartwell Lake level restrictions page returned a 403 error on both tries, so lake level and boat ramp restrictions could not be checked. Savannah District news releases show nothing newer than February. The Department of War releases page did not render a list of releases. Emmanuel's story archive page loaded without headlines, so no Emmanuel news could be read and the sports lines come from the schedule pages. The Franklin County Chamber calendar showed no dated events for this period, and the Lavonia-Carnegie Library page lists hours but no dated programs; the separate LibCal calendar was not read. The city of Lavonia home page carried no announcements and no 2026 agenda page could be found. Neither the Georgia nor the Clemson schedule page listed a national ranking.
