State Gas Tax Suspended Through Oct. 29

Governor Kemp's emergency order took effect Tuesday and also lifts state weight limits for commercial trucks.

Governor Brian Kemp announced Sept. 28 that Georgia's motor fuel excise tax is suspended beginning 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 29 and running 30 days, through Oct. 29. The state rates cited in the release are 33.3 cents per gallon on gasoline and 37.3 cents on diesel.

The governor's office said the move rests on a state of emergency declared because of global market volatility, and the same order suspends state weight limits on commercial vehicles. The release lists Georgia averages of $4.19 for regular gas and $6.24 for diesel. It does not say whether the suspension can be extended, and it does not say whether the end date is inclusive.
